What is SDL TRADOS Certification?

The SDL TRADOS Certification Program is the industry’s premier technology based certification which provides a recognized standard of excellence in SDL Trados Studio software knowledge. It’s a comprehensive professional education program designed to develop and validate expertise in the use of SDL Trados Studio translation technology tools.

The Certification has been designed to help educate the translator community on the latest technological developments and best practices in translation technology, terminology management and automated quality assurance checks. As a result, Certification greatly increases derived efficiencies from the use of SDL Trados Studio software and ensures the automation and time saving features available in the technology are applied. Additionally, the SDL TRADOS Certification helps increase quality of translation project by reducing human error and helps individuals achieve their personal development goals.

What happens when I successfully pass the SDL TRADOS Certification exams?

On successful completion of the level 1 exam you will receive recognition as being SDL TRADOS Certified, and you will be issued with a personalized web page highlighting your achievement. The same applies when you pass the level 2 SDL TRADOS Certification exam; your status as a SDL TRADOS Certified translation professional is awarded upon successful completion of the level 3 exam.

Can students become SDL TRADOS Certified at no cost?

Yes, the SDL TRADOS Certification courseware and exams are provided to each student at no cost provided that the university they are studying at is part of the SDL TRADOS Certification University Program.

I am a student and I would like to purchase a license of SDL Trados Studio. Do students receive a discount?

Yes, students who wish to purchase a license of SDL Trados Studio are entitled to an exclusively discounted price. Students who are studying at universities that are part of the SDL TRADOS Certification University Program are entitled to receive an even greater discount.

Is there an educational discount on software for universities? 

Yes, universities are entitled to an educational discount on SDL Trados Studio software, where they only pay a fraction of the normal price of the software. This is something that our sales representative will be able to discuss with the university in more depth.

Is SDL Trados Studio 2011 compatible with previous versions?

Although SDL Trados Studio 2011 is a radically innovative release, it has been developed by the same development team as the previous versions, so is therefore compatible. SDL Trados Studio 2011 will enable you to open TTX and ITD files, as well as use translation memories from older versions of SDL Trados. It also features support for industry standards such as TMX (for translation memories), TBX (for terminology databases) and also XLIFF (as a file format for translation).

2. What is the difference between onsite and online training?

Can a university arrange for its students and teachers to receive SDL TRADOS Certification training from SDL?  

Yes, SDL can provide Certification training for university students in order to help prepare them for the SDL TRADOS Certification exam. Certification training can be conducted onsite or online. Universities that are interested in this are also entitled to an educational discount provided that they are part of the SDL TRADOS Certification University Program. Alternatively the university can arrange for its teachers to receive Certification training to ensure that the teachers are fully equipped to prepare their students for the certification exam.

What is the difference between onsite and online training? 

Onsite training is hands on, classroom based and is delivered on the university's premises. It can also be delivered at one of our SDL or Authorised Training Centre facilities.
Online training is live, WebEx based training delivered over the internet at an agreed time and duration. We see this as a valuable primer to hands on classroom based training.
