PowerPoint, Excel, Desktop Publishing and Web Translations Made Easy

SDL Trados TagEditor is the established industry standard for Web and other tagged DTP formats. Since TRADOS 6.5, TagEditor supports Office files from PowerPoint and Excel. The files can be quickly and conveniently opened and processed directly in TagEditor. TagEditor separates the formatting from the text and protects the tags so you can focus on the words. TagEditor also checks the tags for correct syntax when the translation is transferred back to the original file format, offering a wide variety of tag verification and validation "plug-ins".

Unique Usability Features for All File Formats
  • A unique "tag toolbar" in TagEditor lets you insert frequently needed tags and special characters at a mouse click or keystroke. This makes working with any kind of tagged documents a breeze.
  • Semi-WYSIWYG for tagged formats.
  • Placeholders (instead of tags) to avoid clutter.
  • A special preview mode enabling SGML, HTML and XML layout to be checked directly in the browser (Internet Explorer or other).

Best-in-Class Support for Tagged File Formats
  • Use SDL Trados TagEditor to ensure accurate and user-friendly translation of tagged formats such as STF (FrameMaker and Interleaf/Quicksilver documents converted with SDL TRADOS S-Tagger), QuarkXPress tagged, InDesign 2.x tagged, Ventura tagged and PageMaker tagged documents.
  • SDL Trados is the recognised leader in supporting even the most advanced ML-based formats such as XML, SGML and HTML, including all derivatives such as ASP.NET, ASP, JSP, XSL. Both DTD- and schema-based XML are fully supported.
  • Customisation features are available at all levels to fine-tune all settings.

Innovative Review Features

  • SDL Trados features a new SDL TRADOStag Viewer plug-in for efficient reviewing and printing of translated documents based on exact and fuzzy match categories.
  • Offline editing/reviewing features are available in TagEditor. This means there does not need to be an on-line connection to the translation memory when doing reviewing work.

Sophisticated Quality Assurance Features for Tagged File Formats

SDL Trados TagEditor protects all tags so that you cannot edit or delete them. It also offers powerful yet easy-to-use quality assurance tools implemented as tag verification and validation "plug-ins". Detailed tagging error messages reported in a separate pane allow you to resolve problems quickly and easily. The following TagEditor QA plug-ins are included by default:

  • SDL TRADOStag Viewer. A new TagEditor plug-in for efficient previewing and printing of translated SDL TRADOStag (.ttx) documents from within Internet Explorer. Adapt the printing process based on fuzzy match categories, allowing the reviewer to concentrate on newly translated versus recycled content. TRADOStag Viewer includes ready-made style sheets for HTML and STF (FrameMaker/Interleaf documents converted by the S-Taggers). Custom stylesheets for other TagEditor formats are available upon request.

  • SDL Trados Generic Tag Verifier. This verifier can be used to verify tag changes in any document type that TagEditor supports, from Web formats such as HTML/XML/SGML to DTP formats such as PageMaker, InDesign, QuarkXPress, Ventura etc. It reports all tag changes at document level, greatly facilitating the document structure review process.

  • SDL Trados XML Validator. Use this plug-in to validate XML documents against their Document Type Definition (DTD). This is useful to ensure that a translated XML document can be processed by other tools after the translation process, such as checked into a document management system, published on the Web, etc.

  • SDL Trados S-Tag Verifier. This plug-in can be used to verify and validate translated STF documents as processed by the S-Tagger for FrameMaker and Interleaf/Quicksilver. Tightly integrated into TagEditor, you can now directly go from S-Tag Verifier error messages to the respective position in the document.
