SDL, the leading provider of Global Information Management (GIM) solutions, today announced the extensive adoption of its popular certification program by over 50 Academic Institutions worldwide. These world leading universities have included SDL TRADOS® Certification in their curriculum to build their students’ knowledge in the market leading Computer Aided Translation (CAT) tool and to help increase their marketability in the workplace, after graduation.

SDL TRADOS Certification has been hailed as an established standard in the localization industry and has been gaining in popularity with over 7,500 translators and project managers presently undergoing certification. Additionally, the credential has become the first choice of corporate language departments to identify the most competent translation resources in the use of translation technology.

Many of the world’s leading universities have shown an interest in including the SDL TRADOS Certification program into their curriculum. Since the end of 2007, SDL TRADOS Technologies has worked closely with universities to help them to incorporate certification courseware and examination into their CAT curriculums and coursework. Some of the leading universities in translation studies to incorporate SDL TRADOS Certification as part of their CAT tools courses include Imperial College, University of Swansea, Durham University, and the University of Westminster within the UK, the Heidelberg University in Germany, the Maastricht School of Translation in Holland, the Australian Monash University, Kent State University in the US and the University of Bologna in Italy.

Christophe Declercq, lecturer at Imperial College London said of the program: “The SDL TRADOS Certification program is the natural extension to the contents of the technology taught at the MSc in Scientific, Technical and Medical Translation with Translation Technology at Imperial College, London. Students have the opportunity to take certification tests and as such are offered a great opportunity to enrich their CV on the one hand, but also increase their visibility in the market.”

Dr. Nicole Keller from the University of Heidelberg says: "We are very excited for the unique opportunity to participate in the SDL TRADOS Certification Program. Once our students have experienced SDL TRADOS, we are convinced that this certification will become a career essential."
