What is the SDL TRADOS Certification program?

 
The SDL TRADOS Certification Program is the industry’s premier technology based certification which provides a recognized standard of excellence in SDL Trados software knowledge. It’s a comprehensive professional education program designed to develop and validate expertise in the use of SDL Trados translation technology tools. The SDL TRADOS Certification program is designed to help educate the translator community on the latest technological developments and best practices in translation technology, terminology management and automated quality assurance checks.

SDL TRADOS has made a substantial investment to bring together all the components needed for a successful Certification program, including extensive courseware, multiple training options for developing the required skills and online Certification exams.

There are 3 levels of Certification exams and training offered to support the SDL TRADOS Certification Program:

a) Getting started - supports Level 1 Certification.
Achievement of Level 1 Certification means you  have mastered the basic functions of SDL Trados 2007.

b) Intermediate - supports Level 2 Certification.
Becoming Level 2 Certified  means you  have achieved  proficiency in enhanced software functionality.

c) Advanced - supports Level 3 Certification and leads to SDL TRADOS Certified.
SDL TRADOS Certified status at Level 3 signifies super-user knowledge of SDL Trados 2007. It offers the highest level of expertise and troubleshooting.

Becoming an SDL TRADOS Certified LSP - How do I start?

Contact your local sales representative:

The first step is to contact your sales representative who will advise you about our SDL TRADOS Certification package for LSPs and how to get started with the program. 

Assess your in-house team:

 The next step is to assess the knowledge of your in-house translators and project managers:

1.Own a legal, registered license of SDL Trados 2007
2.Have practical knowledge of the Create, Cleanse, Maintain (CCM) Methodology
3.Invite your translators and project managers to take the free online placement exam for the chosen SDL Trados 2007 technology (Translator’s Workbench or SDLX) 

4.According to the exam results the most suitable certification training plan will be recommended for each user to allow progress through each required level of certification training, leading towards SDL TRADOS Certification. There are 3 levels of certification training offered:

- Level 1 Certification - Getting Started certification training supports Level 1 Certification

- Level 2 Certification - Intermediate certification training supports Level 2 Certification

- Level 3 Certification - Advanced certification training supports Level 3 Certification

Customized Certification Training package:

Once your translation team has completed the placement exam and you have established their existing level of knowledge, group together the results and send them to certificationtraining@sdl.com
We will assess the performance of your users and analyze their existing skill set in order to identify the optimum solution for certifying your team. Once the analysis is complete, we will compile a customized certification training package for your team.

The certification training package is tailored to address the certification training requirement in a way that is most beneficial to the individual needs of your team.  Over 93% of the translators and project managers who attended one of our training programs passed their test at the first attempt.

Exam Information

Upon completion of certification training, your team will be directed to take the online exam and test their knowledge of the relevant modules of the application. When they have successfully completed the Level 3 exam, they will be awarded SDL TRADOS Certification.

SDL TRADOS Certification exams are computer delivered, closed book tests consisting of 40 multiple choice questions each. Each exam is limited to up to 40 minutes and results are displayed upon completion.
